It all started at the end of 2004 when I had the well-known calcium deficiency symptoms, mainly cramps. But who goes to the doctor for cramps? Slowly but steadily I got worse and worse until I admitted myself to the hospital in May 2005. There, I was finally diagnosed with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism. Idiopathic means “for no apparent reason”. I was then treated for my condition. I searched for and also found other people affected by HypoPT at the German Thyroid Cancer Association. There, the Hypopara Working Group was founded in 2009. I have been part of the executive team from the beginning, just as I am now in the Hypopara Network, which emerged from the working group.
